Top Tips for a Stress-Free Wedding
May is looming just around the corner, and for us at Tailored that only means one thing – wedding season is upon us! We’re super excited for another jam-packed summer sending the UK’s best wedding bands to play for happy couples across the country; but we thought, before the madness sets in, this would be a great opportunity to extoll a little advice to all those planning their big day for 2017, 2018 and beyond!
We know the planning process can be a little daunting, to say the least. Our collective decades of experience in wedding entertainment have taught us a thing or two about what makes an unforgettable wedding – here’s five of our best tips for a stress-free, seriously fun wedding day.
Think about what you DON’T want
If you’re about to get started with your wedding planning, the process can seem like a bit of an uphill struggle. There’s just so many different styles, themes and ideas for you to pour over and think about…all too soon you can find yourself drowning in wedding magazines and no closer to working out where to even start! Sometimes, if you don’t have your whole day mapped out from outset, it can be really useful to start with a list of things that you really don’t want. As you start to set aside the things that you are definite ‘no’s’, there’s much more room in your ideas journal for the good things to stand out. For example, if you say to yourself, ‘I really don’t want a wedding that’s going to break the bank’, you can look at winter and autumn wedding dates or cool alternative venues that are less likely to come in at the high end of your budget. Sometimes being honest about what you don’t want can really help you focus on what you do.
Location, Location, Location
It seems like an obvious point but it’s absolutely one worth mentioning: location is key. Your venue location can be the biggest influence on the success of your day, so make sure it’s right for you. Think about the size of the venue, the ease and availability of the facilities, and whether it’s really likely to suit everyone on your guest list (location of local accommodation/disabled access etc.). Also, keep in mind the season that you’re going to be getting married – that rustic barn in the middle of the countryside might look marvelous on a site visit in May, but it’ll get a bit chilly if you’re planning your wedding date for mid-October! We’ve written a few blogs on great wedding locations – check out last weeks on some of Our favourite Midlands Wedding Venues for some more top tips!
Add a little of the personal touch
The best weddings that we have had the privilege to be involved with have always been really personal to the couples they’re celebrating. Get your friends and family involved in planning the day however you can – maybe Grandma can make jams as the party favours, or your friend who went to art school could help you design your place settings! A touch of something personal really makes the whole thing feel so much more special and memorable, and allows your loved ones to feel really involved in your day. It’s a win-win.
Book a live band for the reception
I know what you’re thinking. We’re a live music agency, of course we’re going to say that! But trust us. Nothing compares to the thrill of a live band playing you’re favourite tunes at your evening reception. It can make your evening completely unforgettable for all of your guests. Be realistic with your timings
This is a big one. No matter how perfectly you plan the schedule of your wedding day, we can categorically guarantee you’ll be running behind before you’ve even managed to say ‘I do’. Giving yourself a bit of extra time for each element of your day can really help the whole event run that little bit smoother, and avoids any unnecessary stresses. Here’s a good rule of thumb – for every event in the schedule of your day, add an extra fifteen minute contingency. That might seem like it’ll add up to a lot of extra time towards the end of the day but, trust us, you’ll need it! And if you do end up with some to spare, think of it as more time for dancing the night away!
